This blog is intended to give you a flavour of how I work as a counsellor. You can find more information about me by clicking one of the links above.
When people come to counselling it is often because they want to understand the past, in order to leave it behind and move on. While analysing the past can be a helpful thing to do, it can also be very helpful to analyse the future.
Trying to define what you would like the future to be like – in a realistic way – can help you to identify changes you can make – which in turn can make the future more accessible, more likely to happen.
So sometimes I will encourage my clients to spend quite a bit of time talking about the future in detail. The detail may seem a bit irrelevant but talking about that can make our ideas about the future more tangible. Rather than the future seeming big and scary, rather than our dreams seeming impossible, talking about the future in detail can make it more achievable.
